In a surprising turn of events, the iconic hip-hop duo Clipse has shed light on the acrimonious breakup of their longtime collaborators, The Neptunes. The Neptunes, comprised of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, have been the driving force behind Clipse's acclaimed discography, including their seminal album "Hell Hath No Fury."
During a recent interview on the Popcast podcast, Clipse members No Malice and Pusha T provided insights into the ongoing legal battle between Pharrell and Chad, which has prevented the duo from working together on the upcoming Clipse reunion album, "Let God Sort Em Out."
No Malice expressed his continued affection for Chad, stating, "Absolutely miss Chad. As far as, you know, being on the album. But I'll see Chad in the airport, in the street, at Buffalo Wild Wings, you know, in VA. Whatever they got going on, just hope for the best for that […] Whenever we see each other, it's always still love. Always."
Pusha T echoed similar sentiments, saying, "Chad's my guy. I love Chad. Pharrell's my guy, love Chad, too. We're brothers, we came up together. But, you know, when you say missing in the music, there is no missing in the music when it comes to the Clipse. And if it's just P, it don't matter—we find what we find."
The root of the conflict between Pharrell and Chad appears to be a legal dispute over the ownership of The Neptunes' brand and intellectual property. In a lawsuit filed last year, Chad's attorneys accused Pharrell of "fraudulently" seeking sole control over the rights to The Neptunes' name and trademarks.
Pharrell previously addressed the fractured relationship in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, stating, "No. But I love him, and I always wish him the absolute best, and I'm very grateful for our time together."
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Clipse remains committed to delivering a high-quality reunion album, with Pharrell Williams taking on the sole production duties. The duo's unwavering loyalty to their craft and their enduring friendship with both Pharrell and Chad serve as a testament to the power of music to transcend personal differences.
As fans eagerly await the release of "Let God Sort Em Out," the Clipse's candid comments have shed light on the complex dynamics within the music industry and the challenges that even the most successful collaborations can face. This story serves as a cautionary tale, underscoring the importance of maintaining strong relationships and resolving disputes amicably, even in the face of creative and commercial success.
