Dame Dash Reflects on Heartfelt Conversation with Irv Gotti Before His Passing

In a recent interview on his America Nu Network YouTube channel, hip-hop mogul Dame Dash opened up about a poignant conversation he had with his longtime friend and fellow industry leader Irv Gotti just before Gotti's untimely death.

Despite not having seen eye-to-eye with Gotti in the last couple years, Dash revealed that he reached out to Gotti after learning of his health struggles. "When I found out the struggles, I texted him and I said, 'Irv, regardless of what – we brothers and I don't wanna see you die,'" Dash recounted.

Gotti, who co-founded the influential Murder Inc. label, had suffered a second stroke prior to his passing. Dash expressed that if he had been more involved in Gotti's life during that time, he would have emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health.

"I would have made it a lifestyle for him. I would have made it uncool to neglect your health because, you know, to die over food don't make no sense," Dash said. "Food is not that good that you should leave this world for it and that your family should have to have you be absent."

Gotti, born Irving Lorenzo Jr., passed away earlier this month at the age of 52. His production credits included some of the biggest hits for artists like Ja Rule, Ashanti, and Jennifer Lopez during Murder Inc.'s heyday in the early 2000s.

Despite their recent differences, Dash made it clear that he cared deeply for his longtime friend and collaborator. "Regardless to what our relationship was in that very moment, you know we brothers. We known each other almost 30 years," he said.

The heartfelt exchange serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing relationships and prioritizing one's health, even amidst professional or personal conflicts. Dash's reflections offer a glimpse into the complex dynamics and enduring bonds that can exist within the hip-hop community.
