In a move reminiscent of one of his hip-hop heroes, Kanye West, J. Cole has announced the launch of his own personal blog called "The Algorithm." Just hours before celebrating his 40th birthday, the Dreamville rapper made his blogging debut on Monday, January 27th.
In his inaugural post, Cole wrote: "This is just a place for me to share. I been wanting a lil blog for years. Somewhere to post random shit I fuck with where the audience is way smaller than it is on the social media platforms. Finally pulled the trigger, bare with us as we still developing this page and the layout."
Along with this introduction, Cole shared a link to the 1994 song "Back in the Day" by LA rapper Ahmad, explaining that he's "played this joint last night and was like 'damn! there go my first post for the blog.'" He went on to reflect on how he used to beg his mom for a bike called a GT Performer when he was 9 years old, living on Lewis Street.
Cole expressed his gratitude, writing: "Now at midnight I will turn 40. Might save the sentimentals for a post tomorrow. But in a nutshell I'm GRATEFUL. Happy new year to yall and God bless. 2025 will be a good one."
This blog launch mirrors a similar move made by Kanye West, who ran his own blog from 2008 to 2010 where he shared his thoughts on fashion, video games, and behind-the-scenes photos. Tyler, The Creator also had a blog between 2007-2010 before deleting most of the posts.
Fans are hopeful that Cole's promise of a "good 2025" means he will be dropping his long-awaited album "The Fall" ahead of the fifth and final Dreamville Festival. At his 2014 Forest Hills Drive 10th anniversary concert, Cole told the audience he'd see them at the festival, "hopefully with something new to perform."
With the launch of "The Algorithm," J. Cole is taking his creative expression beyond just music, providing a more intimate outlet to share his random musings and interests with a smaller, dedicated audience. It will be exciting to see what other insights and content he decides to unveil on his new personal blog.
