In the midst of widespread protests across Los Angeles against the conduct of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents, rapper The Game has voiced his support for the city's large Mexican immigrant community.
Donald Trump has responded by deploying over 4,000 members of the National Guard to the city in an attempt to quell the protests. However, this has only led to an increased presence of protesters, as much of Los Angeles stands in solidarity with its immigrant populations.
In an Instagram post, The Game wrote: "Ever since I could remember… it's been black & brown in this city. From the early days of my childhood til now, we've been side by side through it all. All of us. All the time. Not always seeing eye to eye but we've shared Los Angeles for a very long time."
He added: "I stand with y'all like I know you'd stand with us. 'We might fight against each other… but I promise you this.. we'll burn this b!%?! Down get us pissed !!!!!' To live & die in L.A."
Fellow rapper Doechii also spoke out against Trump's response, calling it "ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order." She questioned the nature of a government that deploys the military against citizens exercising their democratic right to protest.
The Game's vocal support for the Mexican community in Los Angeles underscores the deep connections and shared experiences between different minority groups in the city. As the immigration crackdown and protests continue, artists like The Game and Doechii are using their platforms to stand up for the rights and dignity of all Angelenos.
