Cardi B is not backing down from her decision to include her hit singles "WAP" and "Up" on her upcoming sophomore album Am I the Drama?. The rapper recently took to Twitter to defend her choice, stating that these songs are some of her biggest hits and her fans have been asking her to put them on an album.
"This will be the last and only time I'm gonna address this.. 'WAP' and 'Up' are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on [streaming platforms] all the time… they deserve a home," Cardi tweeted.
The tracks were originally released in 2020 and 2021 respectively, but Cardi confirmed they will be featured on her forthcoming 23-track project. Some critics had questioned why Cardi would include older songs on a new album, but the "Bodak Yellow" rapper shut down those complaints.
"I let haters make me not submit 'WAP' for the Grammy's and at this point I'm giving my fans what they want! These two songs don't even count for first week sales so what are y'all even crying about??? Do ya say anything when all these artist[s] pull out all their little tricks and ponies to sell out??? Exactly….Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!"
Cardi's defense of including "WAP" and "Up" on Am I the Drama? comes as she prepares to release her highly-anticipated sophomore album, seven years after her groundbreaking debut Invasion of Privacy. The new project is set to drop on September 19th.
Along with the album announcement, Cardi unveiled the distinctive album artwork which features her in an elaborate red dress surrounded by two tigers. In an Instagram video, the rapper reflected on her journey over the past seven years, saying: "Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, light and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now I give them hell. I learned power's not giving, it's taking. I'm shedding feathers and no more tears. I'm not back, I'm beyond. I'm not your villain, I'm your karma. The time is here. The time is now."
The lead single from Am I the Drama?, titled "Outside," was released last Friday and finds Cardi taking aim at her estranged husband Offset as the former couple continues to negotiate their divorce. On the track, she raps: "Good-for-nothing, low-down dirty dogs, I'm convinced / Next time you see your mama, tell her how she raised a bitch."
With the inclusion of her smash hits "WAP" and "Up," Cardi B is clearly unapologetic about giving her fans what they want on her new album. Am I the Drama? is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2025.
