The Notorious B.I.G.'s Iconic Catalog Nears Massive $100M+ Sale

In a major music business development, the iconic song catalog of The Notorious B.I.G. is reportedly nearing a sale worth over $100 million.

According to multiple sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, the late rap legend's publishing rights and master recording rights are being bid on by the prominent music publisher Primary Wave. The deal is expected to close in the next couple weeks.

The report states that Biggie's publishing rights, which cover the actual compositions of his songs, are set to sell for around $100 million. Additionally, his master recording rights, which grant ownership over the original recordings, are valued in the $30-$50 million range.

This potential nine-figure payday comes just over a week after the passing of Biggie's beloved mother, Voletta Wallace, at the age of 78. Voletta had been the steward of her son's estate since his tragic death in 1997, growing it from around $10 million to over $160 million today.

Primary Wave is known for acquiring the rights to the catalogs of iconic artists, including Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Prince, and more. The company's website boasts that it is "home to some of the most iconic songwriters, artists, and record labels across the history of recorded music."

The potential sale of Biggie's catalog comes amid a flurry of activity around the late rapper's legacy. Just last year, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent joined forces for the first-ever collaborative tribute track "Gunz N Smoke" honoring the late Brooklyn MC.

As the music industry continues to place immense value on classic catalogs, it's clear that The Notorious B.I.G.'s unparalleled artistry and influence will continue to pay dividends for years to come through this reported blockbuster deal.
